Title: Lights On: "Put Your Lights On"
Opening Scripture: Matthew 11:28
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
Introduction:
Turn your lights on.
Don’t walk through life in the dark confused, distracted, overburdened, and spiritually drained.
Jesus is calling you to turn the lights on—to see what He sees in you, to walk in clarity, peace, and purpose.
Some of us are walking around with headlights off in the middle of a storm and wondering why we keep crashing into things. It’s time to flip the switch. It’s time to put your lights on.
Some nuggets to ponder on:
1. Rest Is Not Weakness, It’s Wisdom
Matthew 11:28 – “Come to Me…”
When Jesus gives you red flags, they’re not rejection—they’re warnings and if you ignore them, it becomes a stop sign.
Don’t wait until life forces you to shut down.
Just because something is on sale doesn’t mean you need to buy it.
In the same way, just because an opportunity looks good doesn’t mean it is from God. Know when to rest. Know when to say no.
Rather than complain, rest in the Word
Complaining drains you but the Word restores you.
2. Consumption Without Christ Is Sin
Over-consuming anything to satisfy yourself outside of God. Whether it’s people, food, attention, scrolling social, or even work, leads to a spiritual crash.
Who are you spending your time with?
Are they feeding your faith or draining your purpose?
When was the last time you invited someone to church?
When was the last time you talked to someone about Jesus?
We have time for everything except the One who gave us time. why why why?
3. Validation Comes from God’s Presence
Stop looking for validation elsewhere (social media, relationships, achievements). You are already known, loved, and chosen in His presence.
You may be delayed but not denied.
Paused, but your testimony is playing in the background.
Don’t mistake pause for stop! it is over! God uses pauses for preparation.
4. Don’t Quit Just Because You’re Sore
Being sore is a sign you’re growing, not that you’re failing.
Spiritual soreness is not a stop signal rather it is proof you are moving forward.
5. Lingering Past, Lingering Pain
Some situations linger not because they’re powerful, but because of how we handled them.
Let God heal the residue.
Let the old you be old.
Let the new you rise up.
Let it roll, potato chip. (Sometimes the Holy Spirit speaks in memes too)
6. Watch Your Posture
Matthew 11:10 – "I will send my messenger ahead of you…"
Sometimes God will send someone in your life to help you move forward. But how you receive them matters. Let your posture start at the feet of Jesus.
Are you judging people by how they look, or are you seeing them through the lens of the Word?
When you take off the lens of Scripture, you’ll start misjudging the people God sends to bless you.
7. Discipline Over Emotion
Feelings are real but they’re not to lead you.
Discipline is what will keep your lights on when your emotions want to pull the plug.
Prayer:
Father, Your Word says to study to show ourselves approved by meditating on your word and observing to do them. So that our way will be prosperous and that we will have good success. I pray that your Holy Spirit enable me with Discipline to consistently study and practice your word in Jesus Name Amen.
